Should I stay or should I go…

After much consideration, I decided to pack my bags one more time and come back to Tokyo.   Even though I have only been in Tokyo a short period of time there are already things that I miss, such as, my remote control toilet and my stove that speaks perfect Japanese, so I think.

First things first, I need to figure out if I will stay in the same apartment or look for a newer building.  I will probably end up staying here and the cute Irish boy on the 4th floor has nothing at all to do with my decision. What?!?

When I was fleeing Tokyo, I have no idea what I was thinking when I was packing.  I think we can all agree that the following items do not make the essential items list:

1.  Tokyo city guide - the last thing that I needed to know was Tokyo’s must see attraction and top 10 restaurants.   Oddly enough I couldn’t find the section on “How to flee Tokyo in a Hurry”.  I may send Lonely Planet a chapter free of charge.
2.  9.5 pairs of shoes - you never know when you will need that one extra shoe
3.  And how could I leave Tokyo without my unopened mail from Toronto???  I’m not sure that Rogers cable has better odds of getting paid in Hong Kong.  (Don’t worry Dad, I’m making this one up, I pay all my bills on time)

I’ve been back for about 24 hours, so far no aftershocks to report.  For the most part everything seems pretty normal here.  People are very conscience about hydro, in our office we only have 50% of the lights on and escalators are off throughout the city.  Anyhooo...back to life.

We have another birthday today…Happy Birthday Ingrid! Love and hugs xo

Let the weekend begin…

The next three shots were skilfully taken while relaxing in chair above,
you shouldn't have to work too hard for a quality pic.

Love this little guy...

Some shots are worth getting up for...

Shhhh…don’t tell anyone, Taiwan is beautiful!

One of things that I don’t love about Asia is the amount of tourists.  I know, I know, given the fact that I’m one of “them” I really don’t have the right to complain.  Anyway, where was I?  Oh ya, tourists…okay I’ll let it go for now but I have a feeling this topic will resurface.

Back to Taiwan, it was a weekend filled with amazing food, beautiful beaches and thankfully a lack of tourists. We had fresh fish pulled from the southern point of Taiwan which was walking distance from our hotel, fresh vegetables from the mountains and local moonshine that pretty much ended our evening...yikes!   I have some amazing photos that I’d like to share but my camera cord in Tokyo…classic!

It was nice to have a little break, back in HK, back to reality.  While we haven’t seen much progress in Japan this weekend, thankfully we have not seen any major setbacks.  I have been asked by many of you if I will go back to Tokyo.  I am planning to go back but sans radiation of course!

Has it really only been three weeks?  One of my favourite people arrived in HK today, can’t wait to spend some time catching up.  Yay!

Have a great week, blogging you soon…

TGIF…well almost

What a week!  Like many of you, I am watching the situation in Japan very closely.  Five of us from Chi-X have temporarily relocated to HK but we still have a number of people in our Tokyo office.  I hope everyone is safe, Kayo & Lea my Tokyo family, I am thinking about all of you.

There’s a place in Japan called Nagano, it’s famous for Japanese snow monkeys.  About a week ago all of the snow monkeys left Nagano and have just started to return over the last couple of days.  Everyone sees the monkeys returning as a sign that things are improving and the earthquakes are behind us.  The assumption is that animals can sense these events well before humans.  To be honest, I’m not totally convinced but at this point I’m willing to jump on any good news.

Well, it’s time for this Ginger to hit the road again.  I am happy to report that I’m off to Taiwan to see an old friend.  I can’t wait to see a familiar face and hopefully catch up on some much needed rest.  Famous last words…

Before I go, I would like to wish my older and wiser sister Deborah and my older and not so wise friend Ian Galloway very Happy Birthday's!  Wish I was there to celebrate with you. xoxo

Bye for now...
